This story was HUGE! But somehow, the major media, if the mentioned it at all, only scrolled it across the bottom of the screen, or a short blurb somewhere. Microsoft was busted for patent infringement. This time, it was to do with their Microsoft Word software; the most famous of all word processing software on computers around the world. On August 11th, a Federal District Court in Texas slapped Microsoft with a $290 Million judgment against the software maker in favor of Canadian company i4i. The Court further barred Microsoft from selling Word or providing support of Word software that infringed on the patent. Needless to say, with one of their flagship products basically decommissioned, Microsoft immediately appealed.

Will the BMV open on Monday?

An 87-year-old driver ran her mini-van into the building housing the the BMV on Hart Street in Vincennes, Friday, injuring two people inside, reports the Evansville Courier. An employee and a local driver were injured when the elderly woman hit the gas instead of the brake, causing her mini-van to run into the buliding.

I'm all for the the elderly being able to drive, provided they are capable. Unfortunately, there has not been a mandated testing for re-upping one's license in the state for several years. Once you have your license, it's hard to lose without committing a crime. This is not anything against the older drivers. I have a real problem with a lot of folks my own age or younger, who seem to have forgotten what they are doing behind the wheel.

The object of the mission is to get from point A to point B without becoming involved in or causing an accident anywehre along the way. This includes from the start to the finish lines.

Blue Light Will Go Dark In Vincennes

What has been an icon retail establishment in Vincennes for decades will be no more after May of 2009. The Big K (K-Mart) will close that month, releasing over sixty employees to find employment elsewhere as so many others are already doing. Another domino falls in the current economy, leaving us all with one less place to shop. Just casual observation as you drive past the store anytime in the last several years since the Super Wal-Mart opened across the street shows the impact such a huge retailer has on a local economy. The question, now, is what business will be next in line?

Before we delve into that, a little reminiscing is in order. I can remember my first trip to a K-Mart back in the 1970's. My father took me there looking for shoes for basketball. Prior to the arrival of K-Mart, we had always gone to the local sport store ( I lived in Bedford at that time). We found the very Converse shoes for a couple of dollars less than the local sport store and bought them. A couple of bucks back then was probably in the order of $20 or $40 today. So, if it seems I'm bashing Wal-Mart or any other big chain, K-Mart was really the same thing back then.
