Mrs. Rachel Scott, Prop.
Jellico, Tenn.

Mrs. Rachel Scott, a Siler, was kin to Hayden and Tom Siler. The Veldren Tourist Home was the first bed and breakfast in the Jellico area. Its name was taken from the first couple that stayed there because they returned for additional stays and Mrs. Scott enjoyed their company. The area did not know the bed and breakfast as the Veldren. It was referred to as "Miss Rachel's". Miss Rachel's first husband was Wesley Mahan. Their son, Tom, married Emily Moore, Grace Moore's sister. The 1930 marriage was attended by Grace Moore who sang at the wedding. Miss Rachel's second husband was Dan Scott, and he was connected with the Jellico Carryon. This newspaper was in competition with the Advance Sentinel. "Miss Rachel's" was located on 5th street near the old Jellico Hospital and was a popular local haunt. (This information was provided by James Hayden Siler.)
